Hope you enjoy Bob's observations and commentary.

We continue to work to protect wildlife in the Rea Road area and encourage Charlotte City Council to embrace smart growth protecting all wildlife.

OBSERVER: Bob

NEST LOCATION: Piper Glen Golf Club (Driving Range) 4300 Piper Glen Dr.

DATE OF VISIT: 06/05/2023

TIME OF VISIT: 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM

WEATHER CONDITIONS: 68 F; wind 3 mph SSW; overcast

BAEA’s PRESENT: Yes; 1 immature BAEA

OBSERVATION NOTES:

No BAEAs could be seen from the parking lot.

The nest did not appear to have any residents. I walked along the earthen dam and down to the driving range level.

No BAEAs in sight as I then walked out to the golf cart path to where the stream leaves the property.

As I walked by the nest tree I spotted several vines beginning to encircle the base of the tree.

At about 10:30, as I neared the small pond, an immature BAEA left a perch somewhere above the pond and flew off toward the reservoir. I presume this was one of this season’s eaglets.

I scrambled up to the top of the dam and began to search for the bird I had seen. I finally spotted it perched in the favored tree high above the reservoir opposite the club house. It remained there as I left the grounds.

I suspect that future sightings will become more difficult as the eaglets continue to expand their range.
